I saw your list of favourite novels, and wanted to tell you that I just finished reading “Cry, the Beloved Country” and now consider it one of my favourites, too.
I never saw the movie, but now that I have read the book I am looking forward to it. (Kristie tells me it stars James Earl Jones, who never disappoints!)
I haven’t read any of the others on your list, but someone else recommended “The Brothers Karamazov,” so perhaps that will be next on my list.
Rachel
PS
It was so good to see you and your family this past week!!
Thanks for “stopping by.” It was terrific to see you guys too!
The James Earl Jones movie version is very good. But some of the Communion symbolism is, as I recall, not as clear in the movie as in the book. (At the end of the story).
Karamazov is “that great bouillabaisse” of a book (Buechner). Kind of a little bit of everything. Kind of grim with lots of light, too. Kind of like life!
