Happy New Year!
And what better way to enjoy a new year than to commit to regular reading/listening to God’s word?
Justin Taylor provides a rich variety of Bible reading plans here.
I’m going with the 3-1-1 plan, as suggested by Christoph in a comment on Justin’s post:
I like the 3-1-1 plan. 3 chapters in the OT, 1 in the Gospels, 1 in the Epistles. Start over once you finish the Gospels and Epistles and I guess the OT, too.
You can dedicate 1 day a week to read 5 Psalms and 1 Proverb, or just read those as part of the OT.
That way you will read the OT once a year and the Epistles and Gospels several times.
The best thing: If you miss, you just pick up where you left off.
Alternatively, for those who find reading (of any kind) a grueling, laborious chore, there are several audio options available at Faith Comes by Hearing, and Audio Treasure.
As a bonus, check out Faith Comes by Hearing’s Audio Scripture ministry to the 2/3 world. I highly recommend their work.
How are you planning to regularly, systematically, faithfully read/listen to the Bible in 2009? Leave a comment below.

I will keep on with the “One Year Bible” that we have been reading for years, (mostly he New Testaments Psalms & Proverbs parts) with our children at bedtime. Jocelyn & I have been reading the whole thing together most mornings, last year in the NLT version. We have recently bought the Catholic version which adds the Apocrypha, also broken into daily readings. Currently reading Ecclesisaticus/Sirach which reads like Proverbs.
There is a One Year Bible blog out there summarizing the readings and encouraging you to keep on. http://www.oneyearbibleblog.com/
The ESV http://www.biblegateway.com/resources/audio/ also has a One Year Bible reading plan that can also do audio.
Great topic. very rewarding/challenging New Years Resolution also.
Happy New Years Dave,
Rudy
Happy New Year to you, Rudy. What a great habit you and Jocelyn have developed.
Thanks, too, to J. for the encouraging note about Social Work. I forwarded it to Charis post haste.
